Mobile Content Challenge 2008

MCC-header

Mobile Content Challenge is back! This competition made its first appearance in 2007 and attracted a total of 96 concepts submissions from various Institutes of Higher Learning across Malaysia.

The Mobile Content Challenge (MCC) is a competition created for students of Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) in Malaysia to research and use new technologies to develop real world solutions for mobile telecommunications. This event is jointly organized by Maxis Communications Berhad, the Ministry of Energy, Water & Communications (KTAK) and the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (SKMM).

The objectives of the Mobile Content Challenge are:-
a. To inspire students’ development in the area of mobility content, applications and services;
b. To encourage and inculcate an innovative and creative mindset amongst students, bridging the divide between theory & industry; and
c. To nurture a community of young entrepreneurs that are ready to embark on bold new ventures and who will develop and provide Malaysian made mobility content, application and services.

What you need to do:

This Challenge requires students currently enrolled in any Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) in Malaysia to form teams and develop exciting and new mobile content (“Challenge”).

In the first phase of the Challenge, teams are encouraged to explore all areas of mobile content development which includes content, applications, and services.
Teams with the most creative concepts for mobile content will be selected to proceed to the second developmental phase of the Challenge.
The teams with the most innovative and viable mobile content will be awarded prizes. The teams are given the freedom to utilize any development language/tool of choice.

Wireless Hacking Workshop - WiFi Attack and Defense

05/17/2008 - 00:00
05/17/2008 - 11:00
Etc/GMT

Wireless Hacking Workshop

Nowadays, the most popular option for setting up a home network is the Wireless Network, as it needs no wiring, cabling or holes drilling on walls. With around RM150, you will be able to get a wireless router, and within minutes, your wireless network is up and ready to be used.

Everyone can set up a wireless network with ease. However, users are not aware of its vulnerability. Within 3 minutes, a WEP-secured WiFi network can be cracked and penetrated easily; provided with some tools and hardware.

To promote network security awareness in Curtin Sarawak campus, the newly established IEEE Student Branch Curtin Sarawak is organizing a Wireless Hacking Workshop which is about WiFi Attack and Defense.

The workshop will cover topics such as wireless network technologies, WEP/WPA encryption, WarDriving, wireless hacking prevention, security measures and etc. To make the workshop more interesting, a live demonstration of WEP cracking and Man-in-the-middle Attack will be conducted.

To conclude, it is safer to be open and honest about the threats, understand how they can occur then become educated on and implement the appropriate countermeasures. Hence, this upcoming workshop is not only performing the hacking, but really focuses on how to protect against them. The ultimate purpose is not to teach people how to hack, but instead, to educate them on how to prevent their network from being exploited.
